• ABU Robocon is known for bringing culture and robotics together. This year the host country China had set a theme of Throwing arrow in pots with the help of robots. The game was between Red and Blue teams. Each team was supposed to make two robots known as Throwing Robot (TR) and Defensing Robot (DR). The two robots can be either manual or automatic. The TR starts from the TR Start Zone. The TR can be five arrows at time from Arrow rack and not allowed to move in inner area. The DR starts from the DR Start Zone and can move into the inner area and can tackle opponent arrow to pots. The DR can move to the outer area and can perform all the task that TR can perform from outer area. The game is of throwing arrows in all pot and achieving great victory by scoring 80 points.

Robocon, an international event orchestrated by the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Unit, presents an annual challenge involving the creation of two robots aligned with a unique theme. In 2021, our task was to design robots capable of retrieving arrows from an arrow rack and precisely shooting them at various locations to accumulate points. The cumulative performance of both robots determined the final evaluation.

  • Our journey commenced with stage one, dedicated to prototyping. Overcoming this hurdle, we progressed to stage two – proof of concept, where trial videos were submitted for evaluation. The culmination occurred at the event location, where selected robots were pitted against each other to determine the Indian representative team.

Our approach entailed the creation of two robots, each sporting a 4x4 drive with magnum wheels. This choice aimed to augment reach and maneuverability. The robots were equipped with a sophisticated pick-and-place arm featuring multiple degrees of freedom, facilitated by servos and actuators. This innovation significantly enhanced the efficiency and speed of our robots.

Our dedication bore fruit when, during the final stage of DD ROBOCON 2021 on August 18th, 2021, our team clinched the prestigious IHFC award (I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics, IIT Delhi). This recognition served as a testament to our relentless pursuit of excellence in the field of robotics. Additionally, we were honored with a trophy and a ₹50,000 award from IHFC.

The Robocon journey symbolizes our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation, teamwork, and technology. It showcases our determination to surmount challenges, elevate the bar of achievement, and contribute to the vibrant landscape of robotics.
